In His Own Words:

How did your journey with hair loss begin?

My hair loss journey began when I was 17 years old. A classmate pointed out, in front of the entire school, that I was thinning in the crown. It was embarrassing, it hit hard, and it stayed with me.

A few years later, when my hair loss became more noticeable, I began looking for real answers. I rushed into having two very bad hair transplant surgeries, then lived with the terrible result for nine years before my first repair surgery in 2002.

That experience is what eventually pushed me into the hair restoration world. I know what it feels like to panic, search for solutions, and wonder who to trust. That is why I have spent the last 24 years helping people understand hair loss, hair transplant options, and long-term hair care with honesty and clarity.

In your 24-year career, what's the most frequently asked question from your patients?

The question I hear most often is: “What actually works for hair loss?”

People are overwhelmed by products, promises, before-and-after photos, influencers, clinics, medications, supplements, devices, and online opinions. What they really want is a clear path - not hype.

The answer depends on the person. Hair loss can involve genetics, age, hormones, health, lifestyle, scalp condition, and treatment consistency. The best solution is not always the most aggressive solution. It is the solution that matches your diagnosis, your goals, your risk tolerance, and your ability to stay consistent over time.

What is the correct first step for someone struggling with hair loss?

The correct first step is to get a proper diagnosis before choosing a medical treatment.

Too many people start buying hair loss products before they understand what kind of hair loss they have. Male pattern hair loss, female pattern hair loss, shedding, scalp inflammation, nutritional issues, stress-related shedding, and other causes can look similar at first but require different strategies.

Before committing to a hair transplant, medication, topical treatment, laser therapy, or any long-term routine, you need to understand what is happening and whether the hair loss is stable, progressive, temporary, or even treatable. A good plan begins with education, documentation, and the right professional guidance.

What's the most common mistake you see people make when they start dealing with hair loss?

The most common mistake is reacting emotionally instead of strategically.

When people first notice hair loss, they often panic. They jump from product to product, clinic to clinic, or online trend to online trend without giving anything enough time to work. Some rush into surgery too early, like I did. Others avoid treatment for years and lose valuable time.

Hair loss is not solved by desperation. It is managed with a clear plan, realistic expectations, proper technique, and consistency. The earlier you build the right strategy, the more options you usually have.

Many people quit before seeing results. Is it really just a willpower problem?

No, it is usually not just a willpower problem. Most people quit because the routine becomes inconvenient, messy, confusing, or discouraging.

Hair growth is slow. Treatments often need months of consistent use before results can be properly judged. But if a routine leaves your hair greasy, wastes product in the hair instead of reaching the scalp, gets on your hands, interferes with your schedule, or makes you feel frustrated every day, it becomes easy to stop.

Consistency is not only about discipline. It is also about making the routine easier to live with. The best long-term hair care routine is one you can actually repeat.

Is there a more efficient way to manage long-term hair care treatments?

Yes. Long-term hair care becomes more manageable when the routine is simple, targeted, and repeatable.

For topical hair treatments, the goal is not just to apply a product somewhere on your head. The goal is to get the product to the scalp as efficiently and cleanly as possible. That is where application method matters.

A more efficient routine should save time, reduce mess, minimize waste, help avoid contact with your hands, and make daily use feel less like a chore. For many people, improving the application process is the difference between quitting early and staying consistent long enough to evaluate real progress.

How can patients best maintain their results after a hair transplant?

The best way to maintain hair transplant results is to understand that surgery does not stop ongoing hair loss.

A hair transplant can move permanent donor hair into thinning areas, but the native hair around it may still continue to miniaturize over time. That is why long-term maintenance matters. Patients need a plan that should include medical therapy, topical treatments, scalp care, follow-up evaluations, and realistic monitoring.

A successful hair transplant is not just about the surgery day. It is about donor management, proper planning, natural design, and protecting the result for years after the procedure.

You are known for recommending only truly effective products, so why Rootique?

I recommend very few products because I have seen too much hype in the hair loss industry. For me, a product has to solve a real problem.

Rootique stands out because it addresses one of the most overlooked issues in topical hair treatment: application. Many people are not failing because they chose the wrong topical. They are failing because the product is not reaching the scalp properly, the process is messy, or the routine is too inconvenient to maintain.

Rootique makes topical application cleaner, faster, and more targeted. It helps reduce waste, limits product transfer to the hands, and makes it easier to apply treatment directly where it needs to go. For people who struggle with consistency, that matters.

Is Rootique suitable for everyone?

Rootique is not necessary for everyone, and no product is perfect for every person.

It is most useful for people who use topical hair treatments or scalp serums and want a cleaner, more efficient way to apply them. It can be especially helpful for people with longer hair, thicker hair, busy schedules, pets at home, or frustration with traditional droppers and sprays.

Put simply, the Rootique Duo makes topical applications more effective as they’re being delivered where they’re meant to be delivered, the scalp and not the hair. Once you get it there, then it can do its job the way it was intended to and not if it is still stuck in the user’s hair.

Who would find it unnecessary?

The only people that would find the Duo by Rootique unnecessary is anyone that is only taking oral medication.

But even in those cases, where oral medication usually will have a higher probability of systemic based side effects, the Duo may be effective in helping to deliver the medication to the scalp, where it belongs.

This would help to reduce side effects due to the lower likelihood of the topical going systemic, where more issues can be seen, while increasing efficacy due to the lower amount of waste.

For example, if someone is having side effects with finasteride and titration isn’t helping, the logical alternative is to switch to a topical formulation of finasteride. That is where the Duo can make a real difference, helping to get it to the scalp and improving the absorption compared to a simple dropper solution or applying with the hands.
